Zakynthos is a Greek island in the Ionian Sea on the west coast of Greece with about 40‚000 inhabitants. The port of the same name is the island's most important commercial centre.
Zakynthos has a rich vegetation; the unique nature is the central theme of the island. A very pleasant climate - Mediterranean temperatures paired with warm rainfall makes Zakynthos blossom in a wonderful splendour of natural colours all year round.
There is also a National Marine Park‚ which serves to protect the loggerhead sea turtle. The island is the most important nesting place in the Mediterranean for the loggerhead seat turtle: this species lives in the waters of the Ionian Sea and was threatened with extinction.
